Getting Ready for Disaster Volunteers - training
Registration is needed to attend event.
Please register to join us for a workshop designed to help participants from government agencies and programs plan and prepare for disaster volunteers and enhance their disaster volunteer management understanding and skills.
Topics to be addressed in the workshop include:
The value of affiliated and spontaneous volunteers in disasters
Assessing your agency’s needs for disaster volunteers
Finding the right volunteers for your program
Best practices for effective training and supervision
Tips on managing your disaster volunteers
Creation of volunteer policies and procedures
How to identify and mitigate risk
Forms and record-keeping methods
How public information affects volunteer management
Learning from exercises and operational experience
The workshop format includes presentations, class discussions and exercises, and hands-on skills practice.
Who Should Attend:
Field staff in government agencies who are assigned to supervise or manage either affiliated or spontaneous disaster volunteers
Volunteer managers, EVC managers, human resources staff, emergency managers and other public sector personnel involved in disaster volunteer management
